This week is Back Care Awareness Week 4th – 8th October.
Acupuncture is a holistic treatment that works with the body’s Qi energy. In doing so, acupuncture can stimulate the nervous system, relax muscles and enhance blood flow, helping reduce pain in the spine and muscles of the back.
I think it is safe to say that we have all experienced back pain. For some of us lucky ones, it has been just a mild ache in the lower back or tension in our shoulders that soon goes away on its own. However, back pain can also be an excruciating pain, sometimes accompanied by sciatica. It can affect our movement, disrupt our sleep and can also result in affecting our general mood. This can range from feeling angry as we can not do the things we normally do to feeling depressed as life has become painful and restrictive.
So many factors can cause back pain. You could have been in an accident, overexercised, have bad posture, or work in a job with repetitive movements. We can even get bad backs from sitting at our desks all day.
Research has shown that acupuncture is a great treatment for back pain. It is also safe and beneficial for back pain in pregnancy as it is a natural method of pain relief.
Aims of treatment include relief from pain, a reduction in inflammation, and improved mobility. As a traditional Five Element acupuncturist here at Highgrove Health & Wellbeing Centre, the treatments provided will focus not only on your back pain but also on you as an individual. A session of treatments is generally recommended, and each treatment is unique to each patient.
