After 25 years of an enjoyable, but stressful, career in teaching and management in a 6th Form College, I had the opportunity to retrain as a Person-Centred Counsellor.*
*What is Person-Centred Counselling? Click here for a full description via the bacp.co.uk website.
This change came at a time I was experiencing personal challenges with my health, and I had a need to find a calmer, more spiritual approach to life.
I chose the Person-Centred approach, as it puts the person at the centre of the work. I don’t tell you what to do or give solutions. We work together to help you understand and find a way forward.
Over the years, my approach developed to meet the varied needs of my clients. By integrating other approaches and techniques it can enable more understanding of certain thoughts and behaviours, e.g. working with breathing and relaxation techniques, journal writing, art materials, stone work, when words are difficult. This is always discussed with clients so they can decide what feels right for them.
Since qualifying, I’ve worked with clients in all walks of life, from eleven years old to the elderly and for various charities. Some examples of client work include working through Bereavement, Addiction, Anxiety, Depression, Bullying, Trauma and PTSD, to name a few.
I currently work for Clear Links for university students who need support for their mental health and have additional needs such as Aspergers and ADHD. I also volunteer to counsel NHS staff whose mental health has been affected by their work during Covid.

Initially, I offer a free 30-minute telephone consultation to answer any questions you may have and then explore what you would like to achieve. If you’re happy to proceed, each session after that is for 50 mins. In our first session we will both have time to feel comfortable about working together and the focus of the counselling work going forward.
